Fake toilet paper has been found on sale in markets in Beijing. According to Xin Jing Bao, the phony toilet paper was made in Shandong and transported to wholesale markets in Beijing.
The phony toilet paper, sold under the name of the big toilet paper brand Xue Zhu, contained visible chaff, and its overwrap was fragile. The quality of the fake toilet paper led many to question if it is actually hygienic at all.
The Xue Zhu company has tried to investigate the source of the phony toilet paper and found that it came from a county in the province Shandong from where it was sold in Beijing.
There were three kinds of toilet paper being sold in Beijing wholesale markets, according to the reporter from Xin Jing Bao. Posing as a customer he was told by a vendor that the genuine toilet paper manufactured in brand companies like Xue Zhu, cost the most of the three kinds. The middle level was the good-quality phony toilet paper with its overwrap almost identical to the genuine one but with lower quality in texture, compared with the highest level. The lowest level had the worst quality and lowest price tag. The vendor would offer the customer the three choices and ask which kind of toilet paper the customer wanted.
"It has been eight years since the phony toilet paper was found in markets," said the office of Xue Zhu, "but it's still an unsolved problem. The phony toilet paper has put a negative effect on the credit of our brand." After a long investigation, Xue Zhu thought they had found the source of the phony toilet paper was in Pingyuan, a county in Shandong. They discovered a truck carrying phony toilet paper would be heading for Beijing, but Xue Zhu and police failed to intercept the delivery
