WTW: HTC not honoring receipt by phone shops

ok, the story goes like this:

today i was flashing my phone (HTC Touch) and somehow first OS (nvm what it is if you dun know, juz read on) got screwed. so it's basically dead (can't be turned on, no light when charged, basically appearing dead). i digged for the receipt, and i sighed a relief coz it's stated April 09. i double-checked the IMEI that it's for this phone (coz i had 2 HTC Touch)

But as i brought the phone to HTC Service Center (in Harbor Front) they said the receipt HAS NO VALUE!!!. they only honor receipts by telcos and authorised distributors! i told the CSO to go check w her superior and nothing changed.

So YES, if you're buying HTC devices, INSIST on receipt that has some telcos or HTC thing on it (that's what i guess they would accept).

My reciept was from this A-mobile, part of a imobileexchange group. i wanted to track down their store to ask them for warranty but their website has NO ADDRESS, even as they boast that they have >30 stores all over Singapore. (and i suspect that SimLim shop receipts also have no freaking value to HTC).

P/s: after some curse and swear i tried a devious manouver and got the phone to turn on. it's happily fixed now. so yeah, luck was with me. NO thank to HTC, though...

either way, your warranty is void since you spoilt your htc via flashing rom.

by the way, htc doesn't need receipt since its online registration.

as long as you have a receipt with company selling the phone's details on the receipt ,like logo and address, with model and imei on it, they will accept it..if u have the cheap receipt frm bookshop with no details, they will reject.

Well the last time I went HTC was nov 09. My phone is still in warranty though but the HTC staff never ask me for receipt, which was from mobilesquare. I didn't offer to show the receipt since the staff never asked.

Later on I see the service report it states in warranty...so looks like HTC has some way to know the phone is in warranty or not.

yes, they can check the Manufacturing date. Mine happened to be out of warranty, according to that. and for some phone which are juz released (like within a year) then it's common sense that they don't need to check mah

HTC will reject it if the IMEI and part number shown on the receipt doesn't match the one found on the phone and the warranty is void if you used 3rd party rom or "illegal software modification".

dude, in my case none of that applied. the IMEI was stated, and match! and they couldn't turn on the phone, so how they know i flashed ROM? i didn't tell them that either!

Coupled with the high prices Singaporeans attach to HTC devices (for some reason) I'm sort of glad I never supported HTC directly. Perhaps indirectly by owning an Xperia, but not directly.
