    Post RV770XT runs twice as fast as 2900 Pro under 3DMark06

    We just caught a news saying RV770XT’s score would be twice as HD2900Pro under 3DMark06. A further judgement is probably needed in the following days.

    HD2900PRO 3DMARK06 SCORE = 9K (cpu=c2d e6700)
    RV770XT=2 X HD2900PRO = 18K

    Hopefully this performance carries on to game performance, which ATI seriously needs to work on.

    Agreed, I could care less about 3D Mark scores, I would of much rather seen comparison in gaming, and to something other than a 2900.

    Don't worry, the next 2900 seems to be GT200 instead. At least looking at where it's gonna go...

    Well this would apply also with RV770? It's more than twice as fast as RV670..and done with same architecture.

    The RV770 is slated to use GDDR5 memory which uses less power, which would mean less heat. There is going to be a GDDR3 model, but the other two models: the 4870 and 4870 X2 both are slated to use GDDR5. To give an idea I read that 512MB of GDDR5 uses 30-40% less power than 512MB GDDR3.

    Hmm that is if they are running on the same frequency or speed.

    512MB of GDDR5 running at 2.0GHz (4.0GHz effective) consumes 35-40% less power then 512MB of GDDR3 running at 1.1GHz (2.2GHz effective), or at least that is the way I understood it. But I also fully expect it to beat the crap out of ATI's dual-RV770 card in performance.

    Yes, but memory powerconsumption is pretty low anyway[why memory chips don't have that heavy cooling]..and current GDDR4 solutions use same amount of power than GDDR5-solutions will.

    Geforce 9800 GTX TDP: 168W
    8800 GTS TDP: ~135W

    RV770PRO- Rumored 100-120W (1 slot)
    RV770XT- Rumored 150-170W

    GT200 is probably just too big for its own good. It's almost definite that the TDP exceeds 200W, and unlike the GX2 which has 2X surface area to cool, this is going to be hard to cool
