    |||Need For Speed Underground 2 Review|||

"nice ride you got there... did santa bring it for ya?"

Welcome to need for speed underground 2.. after beating eddie in need for speed underground 1, you make your way to the city of nfsu2 where the sun never shines and illegal street racing is life.
    whats new? tons

    GamePlay-
As you already knew in nfsu1, you start off with some stock car and make your way and progress on to mod your car to its max and get the crowd's attention and soon.. rul3 the streets.
In nfsu2 its almost the same but there are a couple of enhancments. As you should have already known, instead of "spoonfeeding" ur body mods, paint , etc from a gui, they set u free in a town, called bay view, make you travel and find the respective shops yourself, that applies for the races too.
Okay... so you start off with modded ride(which isnt yours) from the airport and drive it to the car lot(shop) - there is where you'll get your very own ride!
You recieve info bout races, new unlocks, sponsers and tons more of other stuff thru your handyphone! Very much like nfsu1, you get guided by some women who lends u her ride in the 1st race and so on. In nfsu2, you get Brooke Burke! SPOILER: EVEN IF U FINSIH THE GAME YOU WONT GET TO SEE BROOKE BURKE NUDE! =O

In the game, to mod your parts you need to get to specific shops to mod specific parts.
To get to a race / Shop you gotta drive to it, its show as full circles for shops and dounuts for races. Also there are mag cover and dvd cover shoots which are shown as stars. That would mostly be a time trail to get to the star. You'll get a clearer picture when you experience it yourself
    Heres a quick run down.
    Car lot - Get/Trade-in a new ride
    Body shop - Bumpers,headlights,rims
    Graphics Shop - Paint,vinyls,decals
    Car Specialities Shop - Spinners,tints,neons,hydraulics
    Performance Shop - Performance Upgrades
Garage - To park ur car and change ur ride or something.

    Now the races.
Pretty much the same as nfsu1 consisting of
Circuit - You race in circles, ranking is based on timing.
Drag - You race a relatively straight road and the key is to get perfect shifts, ranking is based on timing too.
Drift - You slide your car in a windy circular track, ranking is based on speed and angle for drift points.
Sprint - Race from point A to point B. Ranking is based on timing.
But in nfsu2, you get 3 new types of races...
StreetX - You race in a drift like windy circular track, just that the ranking is based on time, not your drift points.
URL(Underground racing Leauge) - Something special, 6 cars, racing in a track (not streets) ,no traffic, ranking based on timing.
OutRun - Something like a 1 on 1 challenge, in the streets, you may frequently find other modded cars travelling along the same road, when you get close to them, you can challenge them and race, the objective is to outrun them by overtaking them and "disappear". You'll get a better picture when u get the game.

    Spoiler:

TIP: Read those (!) when you drive over them and they appear in your sms inbox as they may prove to be helpful most of the time.

Bay view is about half the size of Vice city (GTA) and you have to find the shops yourself by locating the respective lights of the different lights make the game quite time consuming, also, sometimes you get calls bout unidentified races which wouldnt appear in you map, you might wana check it out but again, finding it is time consuming.
But to get to points which are already on the map..now thats a different story, winding through the streets to get to a point in bayview may prove to be a challenge and may sometimes make you lose time trials to get mags/dvd covers esp when your new to the city, thank god the peeps at ea games built in a gps for ya !
When you activate it by clickin on a point on the map, a big blue arrow shows up.
One big flaw about the gps is that its indecisive, sometimes it could ask you to make a U-turn when your traveling at 150mph,now thats quite impossible huh but overall its still very helpful

    GPS off:

    GPS on:

    Spot the diff

Now your car, you get to a shop and buy the parts you want and thats all right? Wrong
In nfsu2, you get to tune your car to your own liking. very much similar to Grand Turismo series of games.
You've got a test track which is sometimes used for URL races and a dyno to track ur car's performance.. good huh?

    Graphics-
Well... not too promising on the textures part, tons of shabby textures here and there but you cant blame them, its a pretty big city to texture ya know
Other than that, some new effects like volumetric fog, rain , particle effects and some of the older effects like motion blur and stuff.
The rain splatter was gr8 as if produced a very realistic refraction of droplets of water on the screen. I like it. Of course you could turn off the features yourself

    Sound-
Well im quite dissapointed with this soundtrack, the menu's Rnb / Hip-Hop beats still match up with the game, but the ingame track is too soft(of course you could tune down the rest of the sounds yourself) and the some of tracks are not compatible with the racing scenario, like your racing 200mph and you tryin to block the person behind
you from overtaking and the adrenaline is rushing yet they're playing some funky slow beats, that could really spoil your mood.

The effects part is another story though, great tyre screechs, engine revs, turbo shifts.
What i really like is WOOOSSSSSHHHHHHOOOOOOOOo sound you hear when you go under a bridge. Very clam sound
The only effect draw back here is the nitrous sound effect, it no longer has that SSSSSSWOOOOOOOOSSH sound that makes u wana say "YEAHAH! IM ON NITROUS!!!!", instead, the sound is now more of a low humming sound, quite a dissapointment.

    Engine-
The graphics engine is pretty much the same as nfsu1,more graphical control like fsaa
There were some stability issues thought, my game first started w/o texture filtering which meant that all the textures were pixilated, was solved with a restart,
it crashed a couple of times but was solved after downloading the patch.
The engine's still pretty good as it allows u to turn up most of the eye-candy any yet play as smooth as ice

TIP:With the free roaming enviroment the game eats alot ram apx. 300 of it. by tuning the settings down on a low-end rig would help the reduce the lag quite a bit as i've tried on a 256mb machine.

    Conclusion-
EA Games did a pretty good job this time for its 8th edition for its needforspeed series.
If your a hardcore fan of being some wild illegal street race this game is a must get, on the other hand, its your some "realism" driving game fan then dont get too hyped up as this wouldnt be for you but its still worth a try

Damn That Is One Great Game. Kick Ass Man! But One Think Is That If I Put My Settings To The Max It Lags. ^_^ Hardcore Fan Of Mazda Miata Mx-5 Though It's Slow ^_^
