    Post Hands on with AMD A10-5800K & MSI FM2 A85XA-G65 :

Managed to get hold of an A10-5800K.
Paired it up with the board I currently have on hand.

    MSI FM2 A85AX-G65

    First, a share of pics.

    AMD memory profile?
    AMD Memory Profiles
    Guess I haven't touch AMD since 990FX.

More on the board itself :

    Its a clean layout.

I/O ports consist of all 4 display outputs.
    AMD A-Series Processor-in-a-Box

    2nd Gen AMD A8 and A10 Processors supports :
AMD Eyefinity Technology7 capability – Enables multidisplay technology for an immersive gaming, entertainment and productivity experience with up to 4 monitors.

OC Genie/power/reset buttons and V-Check points are located at the side.
That JTurbo1 header is for their propriety devices like the Multiconnect panel.

    8 SATA 6GB/s ports from AMD's A85X chipset supporting raid 0/1/5/0+1.
Why couldn't they just make all 8 ports facing L-shaped direction? :S

    2 x PCI-E 16x slots. ([email protected]/8)
    3 x PCI-E 1x
    2 x PCI
    Solid looking FCH heatsink.(south-bridge)
You can also see the clear CMOS button.
The USB3 header is just above the second PCI-E 16x slot.

    And....
    The CPU :
    AMD A10-5800K
(They took up the "K" labeling too.)

    My setup is simple :
I tested with and without the GFX.
    Here's a pic just to share :

    A10-5800K
    MSI FM2-A85XA-G65
    G.Skill RJZ 2133 4x4GB kit
Thortech 850W gold(for its iMeter display)

    First boot :

More on the CPU from Guru3D :
    AMD A10 5800K review - Introduction

    From AMD :
    AMD A-Series Processor-in-a-Box
AMD A10 Processors include all of the above features, plus:
    Quad-core accelerated performance
Up to 4.2 GHz Max Turbo9
384 AMD Radeon cores 2.0 for blazing fast computing
Unlock your potential by selecting the overclockable10 Black Edition
45% more graphics performance than 1st Gen AMD A8 APUs11
26% better system performance than 1st Gen AMD A8 APUs12

    I went for a straight overclock @ 4.5GHz.
    Some test benchmarks here.
(Mainly on CPU only. This CPU @ 4.5G required as 1.42v for me.)
Just take the numbers with a pinch of salt.
    More for reference.

    Load on 3Dmark :

    4.5Ghz + stock IGP
    Stock should be much lower.

    Next is CPU Passmark :

    Cinebench 11.5(64bit) :

    X264FHD Benchmark :

    3D mark :

This integrated 7660D is actually not bad.
    Very good for an IGP.
Maybe I'll try to load up some games with it.

    So there you have it.
    For you to judge.
I do not know local pricing but hope its good
Hope they can make a comeback to the budget segment.

Heheh, my 1st very own MSI mobo in the longest time since the Intel 865PE era... courtesy of AMD & partners.

    Beautifully packed and delivered.

btw Andy, can request the MSI BIOS guys to refine and make the flash update a little less chor and less scary? The flash program just simply reboots the mobo suddenly at around the 90% mark without any warning. Thought the flash was incomplete and the mobo was done for liao but apparently the flash was actually successful.

So I observed my other A85 mobos while flashing and sure enough, at ~90% (not 100%) it suddenly flashes a success message and to press any key to reboot instead of just sudden rebooting. Not so scary... much preferred.

I was so keen about it, now considering a mATX/ITX, and its sad that there's no G-series mATX mobo for FM2.
