So I guess ill go dual 240mm on the top and front of a phantom 530 case?
your top can fit a 360mm rad, why not?
    top 360, front 240, back 120

heres a good readup abt how much watt of heat certain rads can dissipate at certain rpms:

should i just buy kit instead to try out for my first experience? only thing i scared is the installation error causes the water to flood the parts and bye bye the items.

    This is my current rig
    Motherboard - MSI Z68 GD65 (B3) motherboard
CPU – Intel Sandy Bridge I5-2500K CPU
    GFX – Sapphire 7850HD 2GB
    SSD – Intel 250GD S530 SSD
    HDD – Hitachi 1GB HDD
    Sound Card – Onkyo PCI200-LTD
    PSU – Corsair 620W

I was thinking to upgrade my GFX to use 2 x P9-280X for purpose of trying coin mining. Initial intention is not to upgrade my CPU and motherboard as I seldom play games anymore

Wah nowadays start young. Watercool then mining also lol .

About your question, for the 280x rated TDP is about 500 watt for both plus cpu some overhead, most people would advise you go for 750 watt but many of us here really like future proofing we go 860/1000 in the event you upgrade your gpus after all the high end psu's have 7 yrs warranties for some of the brands.

Then again, there's the lifelong debate about how power requirements are over hyped, if you plug that system into a kill-a-watt, you could probably do with a 650( just an estimate). In conclusion, it really is down to personal preference as well as budget.

Thanks for the information. Nice to know nowadays high end psu have 7yrs warranty as i always would go for better psu (why? because i had a total loss before due to stock psu that comes with casing)

Dude. Those "rated TDP" is for shitty PSUs.
    750w will handle 2 OC'd 280x/7970 no problem + other stuff.
