    CCR1009 : Router
Asus RT-AC68U : Wireless Access Point + Dumb Switch

Replaced the fans with a pair of Sanyo Denki and sticking a 120mm fan spinning at < 800rpm @ 5V (powered by the Asus RT-AC68U's USB port) help quite a lot ... at the same time keep the Asus RT-AC68U cool too

Overall the CCR1009 is still audible but not annoying in an aircon room. It starts off with some screechy noise but will settle down after a while.

... also, setting the fan to 'Aux' rather than 'Main' helps keep it quieter too ... not sure why but I guess the fan profiles are different for both fans.

Nice! Myself have ordered ALIX APU1C4 to make a new embedded routerOS. We should test it together.

damn that CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+ is tempting, i saw it available at https://store.alagasnetwork.sg/mikro...-8g-1s-1s.html and considering. it might be overpowered for my needs though as all i'm running are servers at home over a vq 300mbps connection.

on another note, does anyone have a spare routerboard i can borrow to load test and determine what hardware i need from them?

Erm ... what's an ALIX APU1C4 ? Must be some uber high-end stuff way beyond my league

I'm using it on my VQ connection too (with WAN Failover to my ST connection but w/o load balancing). Both lines are 500Mbps. This router hits it w/o even getting close to 10% load

If you want a simple RB to try on 300Mbps, any of those with 600MHz processor (eg. RB2011 or RB951) should be able to do it. Just make sure you're on ROS 6.12. I've done some quick speed tests on an RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN here :

The RB2011 and RB951 look nice and compact. Need more than 5 ports so that rules out the RB951. I already have a RG250S and ran out of ports.

The 600MHz processor wont get stressed out? Is there anything that will break the NAT acceleration? I'm keen on getting a RB but there seems to be a huge price gap between the RB2011UiAS-RM and the RB1100AHx2-LM/RB1100AHx2.

When wenasong posted about the RB850Gx2 i got really excited until i saw the number of ports. Really need 8 ports or more at the moment and don't think that stacking switches is good. Another reason i wanna get a RB is that I think having a switch chip tied closely with the cpu is better than my current setup of running pfsense with the LAN NIC going to my RG250S. Latency is everything for me at the moment.

CCR1009 is what you need right now. I heard, the RB850Gx2 and mAP is a latecomer this year. The same problem, production problem. RB850Gx2 is the best combo right now.

CCR1009 i feel is overpowered for my use. And i've read that changing the fans on it voids warranty?

Do you think that a RB850Gx2 with more ethernet ports will come out once they iron out their production problems?

Unlikely i'll get the CCR1009. Hoping for something like the RouterBOARD 2011UiAS-RM with RB850x2 internals

No, changing fans will not void warranty as confirmed by one of MikroTik's staff in the CCR1009 thread.

The 600MHz processor + some optimization in ROS6.12 help push the RB2011 & RB951 close to 400Mbps NAT throughput (refer to the link in my earlier post). If you're on VQ 300Mbps plan, then I think either of those RB is good enough.

If you're staying in the East, perhaps I can lend you my RB951G-2HnD to test if you're interested.

I'd love to test your RB951G-2HnD on my network. I stay on the west side though so I'll wait until my exams are over so I have free time

RB2011 it's a better deal still. I stay near Pioneer, my office is nearby too. Maybe we can meet up sometimes.

Any idea what happened to the RB953GS-5HnT ? It was announced almost 1 year ago and still no launch date in sight. Even the MT employees have been avoiding questions about it.

Interested in getting 1. Hopefully MT will incorporate 802.11ac into it as 802.11n is so 'over the hill'.

It is a 802.11AC platform. But the embedded radio is only 3x3 N. 60mhz ready though. I'm going to Bangkok MUM. Will let you know on the additional details when I'm there. Will ask Mikrotik people directly.

Ordering Compex and JJPlus card for the AC. QCA9880 based miniPCIe. It seems that the AC cards code already embedded inside the wireless-fp package. My ALIX is on the way and, Compex is based on Singapore. I can predict that the device is ready within this two weeks time.
