Though quite like this but quite concern of the 1 year warranty...normally a monitor have 3 years warranty, maybe they are not confident of this product
And did a search around and found that this monitor have some problems or shld i say current 3D monitor have this common issue?
1 is the ghosting (Common for current 3D monitor?)
2 The 2D picture isn't that good unless u turn of the over drive. (2D Image)
    3 Slow Boot up time.....

    Hi Bro,

Thanks for the nice feedback. Good to know that you started digging into 3D monitors.

Acer sold lots of GD245HQ in US and Europe market. They are not willing to release this to Singapore market because they think there is NO huge 3D market here in Singapore or even Asia except maybe Japan compared to US and Europe. I don't think any LCD manufacturer here sold more than 100 pieces of their 22" 3D monitors in Singapore alone compared to the normal 22" and 24" standard 60hz monitors!

I can understand that if a territory has not enough installed base, to commit to 3 years warranty is quite tough. Even in US and EU, the standard warranty is 2 years for this monitor. So, I think this is just a matter of time when 3D grow in volume.

If this monitor is no good, I dont think Acer would pack it to their Predator high end gaming systems.

Ghosting would happens to all current LCD based 120Hz monitors. Only 120hz capable projectors can get rid of ghosting for now. But projector side now only support up to 720P for 3D.

If you dig deeper enough, this mointor has the minimum/lowest ghosting issues. Even compared to the more expensive Alienware 24" 3D, that piece has a worst ghosting problem. You should do a search on the ghosting problem on other 3D monitors. Then u would realize that Acer one is relative harmless. kekeke

In 2D mode, turn on V sync and disable overdrive would soothe your images.

To be frank, if you cannot accept Acer GD245HQ (which is almost the best 24" monitor now out there for 3D gaming, you probably want to wait until newer models of 3D capable monitors being released next year. There are couple on the roadmap, but it seems that the manufacturers are also taking a wait and see attitude on launching them. LG announced a 27" but they already delayed twice. And the biggest problem is the price of the new models are set to be pretty premium too, by the time they reached our shore.

    I hope this helps.

It's nice to see some 1080p 3D monitors finally available in Singapore.

I do think that the manufacturers are wrong to think that there is no demand for 3D monitors here just because 22" 3D monitors sales are low. I am very interested in 3D but will never buy a 22" monitor because it is simply too small to really benefit from 3D. 24" would be the minimum for me (actually current so-called 24" monitors are really 23.6"), while 27" or 26" at 1080p would be the tipping point for a purchase.

    Hi Bro,

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry was out of country the last weeks.

You are right as previously, only Nvidia is pushing the 3D on PC gaming, but recently with AMD working out their latest cards to support 3D, this already started a new round of competition.

And the raw power needed to drive smooth 3D gaming is still one important point. Not many people can afford the best setup for 3D today. You still need GTX580 SLI to get best effects, even though a GTX460 SLI is enough to cover most games @ low/mid settings for now.

But as you said, this is just a matter of time.

    Hi Bros,

We would be setting up one ACER GD245HQ monitor in our store replacing our current Viewsonic 22" 2D monitor to show the actual performance in 2D and in the near future 3D demo station (3D Demo In Preparation).

Those who are interested are welcomed to drop by to have a look. PM me for more details.

Got a surprise call from Acer Singapore this afternoon.

They are trying to push for 3 years warranty for the Acer GD245HQ finally! WooHoo!

    Keep you guys posted.

Also I did some side by side test running on 2D with my Samsung 2233SW. The concerns on slow boot up was not true. I started both in dual-monitor mode, and both screens flashed equally.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!

Finally having time to followup here after completing the modding of my own PC to run in 3D mode, I thought I give my first hand impression for those who are considering their 3d Upgrade.

I used it test mainly on COD BO as this is one of the first games that are coded natively for 3D mode gaming.

    COD:BO

The biggest impact from switching from 2D to 3D is the way your weapon you are holding looks to you. Of course everything out there have certain depths, this is adjustable using the IR emitter's control to increase the depths. Default is 15% and personally for me is good for now.

The menu for the game are in 3d Mode and looks good when u first started. You can use your mouse to pan around and see the desk and screen consoles some distance away from the menu clearly.

The subtitles are in 3D too, so I would recommended that you switch on the subtitles in the game. They are floating in the mid air.

In the game, the most significant impact would be the gun or weapon u carry. This has to be seen to believe how well they have spent efforts to make this looks good.

To further illustrate this point, I would use 2 examples to "paint" this pic.

In 2d Mode, your scope when u zoomed in looks like a transparency sheet with the crosshair drawn on it, no matter how u move, it is flat and don't create any variations.

In 3d Mode, it gets very interesting, as your scope looks like real scope in life, you would see the depth of the scope and the crosshair become very accurate for aligning to targets. When u move your scope you see light variations in the scope.

So in 3d Mode, your scope aiming become more accurate as there are now almost 3 points rather than in 2d mode where u have 2 points (target and the crosshair only), it also become harder at the same time.

    Acer GD245HQ

With reference to the performance of the Acer monitor, the overdrive issue can be compensated with windows7 when in non gaming mode when u customize your display, which windows asked you on how certain texts looks. Compared to Win XP, the monitor is performing pretty well.

    Ghosting

I have yet to observe any ghosting since COD BO is fast paced, and I don't have chance to spot one yet. I believe ghosting is still present in 120hz LCD based 3D, but that is not related to hardware problem, rather the algorithm coding for 3D.

    Slow startup

I have seen this on responding to switching between different signals (DVI & HDMI) compared to my Samsung Sw2233, indeed the omnitor is about 2 sec slower.

When booting up, you would see this effect between the 2 monitors.

    Nvidia Geforce 3D

Installation is quite tricky but manageable for me.

After installation, there would be a 3D video experience from Nvidia., That would also implied that everything works well, when u are able to watch the intro video.

Once u have these installed, all games would be prompted to run in 3d mode and Nvidia would advsie if the game si good to run in 3D mode, if you want to game on 2d mode, press Ctrl-T to switch off, and turn your games back in normal 2d mode.

The google is designed to fit for both non-spec and spec guys.

    PC Gaming Power needed

Recommended at least a C2Q with a GTX460 AMP for gaming on 1080P. Anything below would choke the games at some points. Running smoothly for BO @1080P would need ideally a SLI GTX460 or a GTX480.

    Hope this is useful info!

    Cheers!
